Building Relationships through Events
In a recent episode of The Breakthrough Code Podcast, Dan Fleyshman, the youngest founder of a publicly traded company, shared his thoughts on the power of relationships and the importance of hosting events. Fleyshman emphasized the significance of creating experiences that people want to be a part of, mentioning his record-breaking toy drive and annual pizza festival as examples.
Business School of Life
Just out of high school he got into business with a clothing brand and just started trademarking everything and almost anything he could. Pretty soon he was making between 8 and 16 million dollars a year with all the ups and downs that come with doing business. His next challenge was growing their energy drink to number 7 out of 900 competitors in a really short time, but he will say that during this time he just didn’t sleep. It was an intense time especially with having to report on every transaction even the ply toilet paper the company chose to use.
Next on his list was online poker, with all the challenges in that space.
The lessons learnt showed him that it is better to not have all your eggs in one basket. A truly disastrous event ended up becoming the best thing that ever happened.
He really was proactive with doing over 80 interviews over the next week to explain how things went down.
He says when you get to work the pain heals real quick.
Pricing Services and Perceived Value
Fleyshman also spoke about his approach to pricing his services. He explained that the ability to charge higher rates comes with experience and perceived value. His Mastermind group, priced at $100,000 per person, was targeted at individuals with businesses worth at least $10 million. His rationale was that if he could help these businesses improve by just 1%, the fee would essentially pay for itself.
The Importance of Continuous Learning
He focused on the importance of continuous learning and research. He says that you get confidence from being an expert at what you do, so zones in on obsessively researching everything! He constantly studies his industry, competitors, and peers to stay ahead of the curve. This relentless pursuit of knowledge has given him the confidence to take risks and charge higher rates for his services.
Self-Belief and Determination
Fleyshman touched on the importance of self-belief and determination in achieving success. He shared his mindset of doing whatever it takes to win, even if it means failing along the way. He stressed that as long as he has given his all, he is content with the outcome, regardless of whether he achieves his goal or not.
